Police Officer Training
The PSN Law Enforcement
subcommittee
brings national trainers
to conduct cross-agency regional firearms training workshops for local
law enforcement officers. The workshops are attended by more than 150
officers. The trainings are a full day focus on federal firearms laws,
prosecution guidelines and hidden compartments for guns. Al law
enforcement attendees are provided with a laminated information sheet
“Quick Reference to Federal Firearms Laws and a pocket size card titled
“Debrief All Subjects Arrested With Guns”. This card informs offices of
12 debriefing questions to ask suspects.
The PSN committee developed a DVD
highlighting PSN and the newly
designed Prosecution Protocols developed by the Southern District PSN
committee. Using the DVD as a training tool, the PSN committee will
conduct regional information/training sessions and “Train-the-trainers”
sessions with representatives from all law enforcement agencies in the
County. The DVD will be distributed to all law enforcement agencies so
that each jurisdiction may use it during roll calls, staff trainings
and special meetings to inform officers about PSN, local PSN
efforts, Southern District of California specific Prosecution Protocols
and local gun prosecution procedures.
