Youthful Offender Mentoring Project
The Youthful Offender Mentoring Project mentors court involved youth who have been involved in a firearm incident or have been documented as a gang member. Working with the Probation Department PSN uses the nationally recognized one-on-one mentoring model. Appropriate youth with previous firearm offenses, firearm incidents or involved in gang activity are selected and are linked with a caring role model who will help them by providing ongoing guidance and support. Juvenile offenders with firearm offense are matched up with a mentor/adult role model who show them ways to respond to potential volatile situations in a positive, non-violent manner. The mentors are supportive adult role models who teach better decision making skills and expose the probationers to healthy relationships. The mentors also check how they are doing in school, monitor family relationships, and engage them in other extracurricular activities.
